Another Simple Favor (Feig, 2025)

Capri and martinis with a twist of murder!

“Yeah, I don’t think you have to worry about Emily killing you because they’re all gonna kill each other first.”

And they’re back! Seven years after the first installment (A Simple Favor), Paul Feig returns with Another Simple Favor—and so does almost everyone (except Jean Smart, who I’m sure was busy with Hacks). From Stephanie (Anna Kendrick) and Emily (Blake Lively) to Sean (Henry Golding), the “baby mama,” the moms from school (Andrew Rannells, Kelly McCormack, and Aparna Nancherla), and even Detective Summerville (Bashir Salahuddin), the gang’s all here.

Feig sticks to the same recipe that made the original so wildly entertaining—the movie opens with Stephanie vlogging mid-chaos, teasing the madness to come, before rewinding to explain how this whole mess (and I mean that in the most complimentary way) began. Five years after the events of A Simple Favor, Stephanie has become a renowned vlogger and cold case investigator. She’s just published her first novel, The Faceless Blonde, chronicling the twist-filled McLanden family. Emily is still in prison—or so everyone thought and life seems to have settled down for everyone… or has it?

When Emily unexpectedly shows up at Stephanie’s book reading (no one makes an entrance like Emily Nelson) and asks her to be her maid of honor, Stephanie’s world is thrown into chaos again. How did Emily get out of prison? Why ask Stephanie? Is this some kind of twisted revenge? However, she decides to board Emily’s fiancé’s (Michele Morrone) private plane to Capri for “the wedding of the decade”—because she needs to figure out what Emily is really up to (honestly, I don’t think I could have said no to a trip to Capri either).

Upon their arrival on the island, the tension is already palpable. Henry is there with Nicky, while Emily arrives with Stephanie and Dante—the recipe for an explosive cocktail. Everyone is at each other's throats, and honestly, who could blame them? Within the first twenty-four hours on the island someone dies. Coincidence? I don't think so. What follows is 75 minutes of increasingly ridiculous twists and turns, and I’m not gonna lie—I’m obsessed!

Another Simple Favor surely isn’t the movie of the year, but it fully embraces its genre. I love a good telenovela-style film—and that’s exactly what Feig delivers! Fabulous locations, clothes that are to die for (Renée Ehrlich Kalfus killed it once again—no pun intended), high drama, and of course… murder. The plot keeps you on your toes, weaving through outrageous twists—some more predictable than others—that are as silly as they are entertaining. The chemistry between Kendrick and Lively remains electric, and every moment is dripping with the perfect mix of suspense and absurdity.

While this sequel may not be quite as sharp as A Simple Favor—especially in terms of the script—it’s pure, unapologetic fun that knows exactly what it is, and that’s what makes it so irresistible.

Another Simple Favor is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video, so get your martini glass and your gin out of the freezer, pour yourself a martini (a real one, from London), and enjoy the trip!
